DVD Ripper and Copier
A DVD ripper is a software application that copies the content of DVDs to a hard disk drive, through a process called ripping.
DVD rippers are used to transfer formats, to edit or backup DVD content for playing on mobile devices or media players.
Some of them may optionally include additional features to remove some restrictions such as Regional lockout or User operation prohibition, and feature to remove some copy protections such as decrypting CSS and disabling Macrovision.
DVD Copiers are effectively was the same as DVD Rippers.
DVD ripping (the conversion of films from DVD format into another format) is a popular topic, but it's bit of a grey area. Lawyers for film companies will tell you that it's copyright theft, plain and simple, but common sense says that if you own a DVD of a film, converting that film into another format for your own personal use shouldn't be a problem; the alternative is to buy another copy of the same film in a different format, and that just seems greedy on the part of the film studios. Home conversion or copying only becomes a real problem if you give copies to other people; at that point it's piracy.
The law may or may not agree with our view, depending on where in the world you happen to live, so with this in mind you should use DVD ripping software at your own risk.
There are many different types of DVD Rippers on the market such as:
Magic DVD Ripper
DVD Tox
DVDpe
Imtoo
Xilisoft
SAGA DVD Ripper
Many of the free dvd rippers are not very good. If you are interested in backing up your DVD's and are looking to purchase some DVD Ripper software we recommend you visit
